Has Kevin Keegan Run Out Of Time?

Another round of English Premier League matches, other defeat for Newcastle and their supposed Messiah, Kevin Keegan. Armed with a devoted Tyneside following and a proven track report in motivational powers, Kevin Keegan was thought to have great inherent in reviving the fortunes of his popular club where he once plied his trade as a dynamic striker that struck fear in clubs all over Europe. Unfortunately, he has been unable to exchange that same capability to his players who have prolonged to flounder in the league, the newest of which was other heavy thumping at the hands of title challengers Manchester United.

No matter how much respect and love the Newcastle fans have for Keegan, he would have to call on his famed powers of recovery to find a solution that would stem the rot in the club. Having a roster full of overrated players past their prime and underperforming stars have not helped his cause much. There is only so much a good boss can do, and given the diminutive tactical prowess that Keegan possesses, there might be a need to hire supplementary supervision staff to help him in that aspect. With the exchange window long gone and no new players available till the season is over, Keegan has to call on every ounce of courage within him and make the indispensable changes in personnel to drag the club out of a deepening crisis. Unfortunately, the season is rapidly advent to an end and Newcastle has only a handful of games left to survive what is a looming relegation battle, before looking ahead for a brighter time to come under Kevin Keegan.

In the process, Keegan has to consider the longevity of his current team of players. Are players like Michael Owen and Alan Smith, stars in their own during their prime, losing their relevancy in today's game? Or can they revive their flagging careers and breathe new life into a club that has been patient and supportive of them? While Newcastle owner Mike Ashley would literally offer all of them more time to prove their worth, the club has stood still for far too long, and every person has to deliver soon, or risk being shown the door.
